Effective Prayer
- Take time to evaluate your relationship with God
- God listens when we pray
- Understand prayer is not a ritual – it involves a personal relationship with God; it is simply talking to God
- Realize why you should pray
- To glorify God
- We are commanded to pray
- God delights in our prayers
- Prayer brings results; it invites God to act and calls forth His power and might
- Be sure you are controlled and empowered by the Holy Spirit, who enables a believer to pray effectively
- The Holy Spirit is given to us to glorify Christ and to lead into all truth The Holy Spirit empowers us for effective prayer
- Use the "ACTS" formula as a guide.
- A – Adoration of who God is, expressing our complete
trust in Him and the confidence that He hears us
- C – Confession of sin; being real and honest but not
extremely introspective, accepting God's forgiveness
- T – Thanksgiving for the many blessings God has given
us and thanksgiving for the difficulties and trials, knowing
He is in control.
- Thank God for our country and for those who serve us in public office
- Thank Him for our freedom to worship
- Thank Him for the fact that we have choices during the election process
- S – Supplication - pray in specific terms
